Come inside Kids, It’s dinner time

Hyped as the hottest new band by blogs world wide, the Black Kids from Jacksonville, Florida are the current ‘it’ band throughout web-land. So who are these Black Kids and where did they come from? Well to be honest, they came from nowhere; a true indie overnight success. They have no record label and only offer a wee EP downloadable from their official web page (which is still not yet up and running).

Contrary to their name, only two members are black; but you probably figured that out from the picture. Are they any good? Well, Yes! It did take a while to turn onto their grooves, but I think I was trying hard not to like them. After all they have been called the new Arcade Fire, so my expectations were set extremely high. But in a month where I disregarded a lot of new music, Black Kids stuck around like a pigeon waiting for crumbs. They survived the play list chop and now I’m blogging them.

So as I help spread Black Kids noise over the pop world, I can tell you one thing; they are a little unusual. At first they sound like your average round about synth pop band, I kept hearing the Killers. On closer inspection you will start tapping your feet, feeling the jive but not getting much mojo. But then a mist will appear, and after about a week you’ll find a rainbow. There sitting next to the pot of gold will be four Black Kids, one will stand up and in the most polite voice say “please take a copy of our EP Wizard of Ahhhs”.
