From The Mighty Boosh To The Teaches Of Peaches

To think that we haven’t mentioned Robots In Disguise before kind of embarrasses me. Dee Plume and Sue Denim have made some of the most amazing new rave, electro-punk this decade, and have just released their forth album titled We’re In The Music Biz.

Formed in Liverpool in 2000, the girls debut self-titled record gained little attention. Their biggest claim to fame was an appearance as extras on TV show The Mighty Boosh. It wasn’t until 2005′s Get RID!, that Robots In Disguise gained a bigger audience and started to gain recognition for their contribution to the electro-punk movement. Blending influences from the Slits to Elastica, Robots In Disguise crafted their own style of rebellious, brat punk. Unique and raw, they were positioned to influence the coming new rave invasion.

No song sums up the bands attitude more than last years ‘The Sex Has Made Me Stupid’, released as a single, the track was accompanied by T-shirts and regalia that defined the new rave scene. The new album sees the girls stripping back their sound, putting more emphasis on the punk aesthetic and is less electronically driven. It’s clear they were trying to achieve something different on We’re In The Music Biz, with it’s obvious reminiscent qualities, it has 1970′s riot grl punk splashed all over it. Genre defining and fresh, it’s accessible to new fans and should satisfy the loyal ones just nicely.
