Iraq and Beyond

They may be celebrating the Post War Years in the small English town of Lemington Spa, but we shouldn’t forget that everyday people are dying from war in the Middle-East, Africa, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and many other parts of the world.

Featured on one of my favourite blogs Good Weather for Airstrikes, these guys come highly recommended. According to their Myspace page, the band live together in an abandoned Russian social club/hairdressers. This sounds like one of the coolest flats ever, imagine all the great socialist philosophies discussed and all the bottles of vodka drunk. They have just released their debut 7″ single titled The Black Morning on up and coming UK label Chess Club, and have just started to gain a little bit of hype.

Post War Years combine the ambiance of 8o’s synth pop with the sonic effects of Tom Vek’s We Have Sound. They end up sounding like a mixture of Depeche Mode, The Cure, Mystery Jets and Tom Vek. Slightly dated, but somehow not so; Post War Years could be just another band imitating their heroes. Thankfully they have pulled together the best bits of all the aforementioned bands (and let’s face it, Depeche Mode and Mystery Jets have few good bits) to create their own unique sound. Post War Years fit comfortably into the emerging British indie scene and with a bit more encouragement will probably gain a cult following.
