The Storm Is Coming
On September 9, 2008, Calexico will release their new album titled Carried To Dust. Last week I came across the band’s first single titled ‘ Two Silver Trees’, which will feature on the band’s upcoming album. Laid back and dominated by strings and percussion, the band have ditched the mariachi style of their previous work to craft a gentle anti-country, folk ballad. As someone who has never really been a fan of Calexico, I think this new track has won me over. A common trend, when a band does something remarkably different. But while it satisfies new fans like myself, I hope old fans will like it too. After all, I wrote this post for fans who may not yet be aware of a new Calexico album.
A short description of Carried To Dust on the band’s myspace page declares, “Carried To Dust is the next step in Calexico’s ongoing quest of moving forward while never turning its back on the past.” Full credit to Joey Burns and John Convertino, it can be difficult to reinvent your sound, but they have done it very well.
