New Song!

My favourite soft-toy-blowing-up, mud-wrestling, porn-obsessed (according to certain sources) band is back! Following their intriguing 2006 album, Types of Wood, and then later I Fucked Up Types of Wood, which included fan remixes of ToW tracks, the Grand Rapids, Michigan band is back with some brand new songs, including one called Green Eyed Lady. The songs are to be released on the band’s upcoming album Scoop Du Jour on September 4 by the band’s own label, Heat Enterprises. The new tracks, three of which are on their Myspace, come across as more commercially accessible for the band, which seems like a positive move as they deserve as much attention as they can get! Whirlwind Heat, who are David Swanson, Brad Holland and Steve Damstra, surprised the hell out of me when they opened for The White Stripes at the St James Theatre a few years ago. Jumping onto each other’s backs, screeching and screaming and entangling their bass lines and guitar leads and wiry limbs into one glorious, punk-fueled experimental anarchist pile, left me grinning from ear to ear for days. I’ve been in love ever since. Here’s to looking forward to Whirlwind Heat, and their new album! The epically awesome, eternally youthful who never fail to amuse and to charm.
