Mean Street
Trees Climbing Trees
Saturday, August 2, 2008
Whammy Bar, Auckland

Drummer Mikey was absent for this Mean Street show, but have no fear: Wilberforces to the rescue! Callum, Tom and Chris joined Emily and Billie for a combined Wilber Street, Mean Forces, Street Forces… whatever you want to call it, it was epic. There’s a reason both these bands are dearly loved by EMJ and on Saturday night they again proved why.
Trees Climbing Trees didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Having heard good things, I was expecting a little bit more from a band the Universal Records reps showed up to see. Perhaps a few more gigs with Mean Street might set the guys in the right direction; during this show the guitarist seemed more interested in posing for the camera than playing.
The Bemsha Swing also played, but our unfortunately long trip to the Burgerie meant we missed their entire set. Next time Shane, we promise.

Ren & Stimpy! I have a shirt like that! The gig sounded awesome and the Burgerie is where it’s at. Haha!

Charlie, I can’t take credit for that quote, I was merely quoting the angry 50-something year old man who wanted to hit weirdly-drunk-mid-twenties awkward Indian guy.
P.S. We didn’t nearly get you killed, Auckland city recognized you guys as foreign entities and merely tried to eradicate you and we didn’t let it.
Be thankful.

Yeah, Wilberstreetforces were great. So were bemsha swing, you missed out there!
I thought trees were good too - I can only assume the universal reps you mentioned were the guitarists flatmate (jane) and her friend?
Anyways, i had fun. It’s not really the bands fault they’ve got a bit of ‘buzz’ (as do meant street, brand new math); all they do is play songs, like any other band. What people say about them is kinda out of any bands control, and it’s all just so much opinion.
