Music Is The Father Of Creativity

and…

Awesome Color make so many different sounds they could probably be in an orchestra if they wanted. Despite their amazing ability, they have decided to concentrate on just a few musical genres, ranging from grunge and punk to psychedelic pop, acid rock and shoegaze. The trio of Allison, Derek and Michael are from Great Lakes, Michigan, just hours from the legendary ‘Motor City’, home of American punk rock pioneers MC5 and The Stooges.

Displaying obvious influences from the regions punk legacy, Awesome Color has crafted two elaborate albums pushing the boundaries of experimentation and spanning a number of genres. They have just released their second album titled Electric Aborigines and have since toured with Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. Their music has been compared to Black Sabbath, Battles, AC/DC and The Stooges, but really they sound like non of them. ‘Eyes of Light’ is my favourite track, a grinding psychedelic, shoegaze track spanning just under six minutes.

A review from New York’s Time Out magazine, posted on the band’s myspace, suggests the band’s live show is also some what of an experience to behold. Described as “un-premeditated” and “unironic”, the review says “any punk, metal or bar-rock fan can appreciate the thrill of someone playing guitar with his bare-feet”. Now that’s clever.
