Polka Dot Dot Dot

Little Pictures

Saturday, August 9, 2008, The Wine Cellar, Auckland

Gosh we were treated over the weekend here in Auckland! On Saturday night, Polka Dot Dot Dot played the final show of their New Zealand tour, and while sad to be leaving the country and people they have fallen deeply in love with, they put on a beautiful show full of smiles and lovable charm. Jordan, Onyx and Colleen have created a special bond since they formed the band during their first New Zealand tour two years ago. That friendship was shared with a packed out Wine Cellar (they stopped people coming in), full of their friends and people they had met on their travels, as well as people who’d heard of the band about town.

Playing an arrangement of songs, newly written and composed while traveling the country in their van (nicknamed the ‘Master Race’ after the Mitsubishi branded Masterace) the trio rode on a wave of gorgeous harmony, carnival like hand-claps, foot-stomping and gypsy bells. Coupled with witty banter and a costume change, Polka Dot Dot Dot made everyone feel comfortable in their surrounding company.

Wellington duo Little Pictures played support, but it was all a bit overshadowed by Polka Dot Dot Dot. However Mark and Johanna seemed very comfortable on stage and perhaps started to win over the Auckland crowd. If you want to see Little Pictures in the spotlight, the band is having their Auckland album launch on September 19 in a bus. Yep, Little Pictures have hired the ‘Party Bus’, a generator and a DJ to entertain fifty people for a night of madness about town.
