Mike Watt VS Vampire Lincoln

The Widow Babies can not be pinned into a corner, they don’t like sitting still and like their music, they love doing things fast and as intensely as possible. Raw and powerful, their post punk stomping provides a fast electric journey complete with African rhythms, and the screeching vocals of Elise McCuthen. Her voice provides an electrifying fix to the thunderous wailing sounds created by Danny Millar (guitar), Tabor Allen (drums) and Noel Marquez (bass).

The band from Long Beach, California has just released their debut EP, a thirteen minute concept album paying homage to local legend, bassist Mike Watt (Minutemen, The Stooges). Titled The Mike Watt EP, the concept pits Mike Watt against a vampire named Lincoln set on world domination. It’s endearing nature makes it a touching tribute to one of the band’s most inspirational heroes.

The EP can be streamed in its entirety on the band’s myspace page and purchased from Sounds Are Active for a very reasonable price. Song two, “Vanity Thy Name Is Lincoln” and song five “In Which Watt Wins His Hands Back And Basses a River Into Existance” are my favourites.
