Sleeping Giants

Soft Shoe kind of popped out of nowhere, if you believe their myspace page they came from all parts of the world, the truth is that they formed in Dunedin and moved to Auckland in May this year. Picked to play bFM’s Fancy New Band Showcase just days after arriving in Auckland, they surprised everyone as the highlight of the first night. Then, just as quickly as they slipped in, they slipped out again to concentrate on recording an EP. I haven’t yet heard the EP, but going on the strength of the four songs on the band’s myspace page I expect it will be exceptional. Combining the electro rhythms and live energy of CSS with the exuberance and antics of your favourite superheroes, Soft Shoe create disco inspired electro pop with a bubbling enthusiasm to party. In a genre heavily scrutinised and often criticised, Soft Shoe have found themselves a good balance between playfulness and pretentiousness.
Soft Shoe play the Einstein Music Journal party this Saturday night. They’ll be on stage around 10:30pm
