Grotesque Ugly Pop

Hard, fast and heavy and it’s not called metal. Mutators are the latest noise band to capture our beady attention. Bursting raucously out of Vancouver, Canada the obscure underground noise trio have just released their first LP on Nominal Records. Titled Secret Life, Mutators reach to the far depths of the earth, bringing together roaring, throat cutting distortion with wavering, post-punk guitar and creating an osmotic reaction between noise and rhythmic pop.
Similar in sound to other bands featured on EMJ recently (Mayor Daley, The Widow Babies), Mutators noise is wickedly spellbinding. Lead by the screaming, brain piercing vocals of Lianne Morrissette, their music is harsh and very abrasive. Credited as being a influential band on the Vancouver underground noise scene, Mutators have drawn a large cult following and have toured frequently across North America with other worthy noise exponents Shearing Pinx.
The bands Secret Life LP was pressed on both blue and red vinyl, with a selected number (23) pressed on full blue and white marble vinyl. The LP also includes a full size, double sided insert sleeve with a full colour poster, all printed on recycled paper. The album can be bought from the Nominal Records website (click on Shop).
