Andy Warhol Once Loved Me

Andy Warhol’s factory was once a famous hang out for transgender freaks, drug crazed manics and one of the greatest bands the world has ever scene. Wannabe artists floated by, testing themselves on the factory floor while the rest of the world was transfixed and disgusted by what went on inside Andy Warhol’s mind.
Edie Sedgwick was a socialite, some say a victim of the Warhol art scene. The rich upper class heiress from Santa Barbara, California moved to New York rebelling against her rich family to become entangled in the psychedelic world of the New York underground. Sedgwick became an icon of the Warhol factory, staring in a number of films and became Andy Warhol’s most prized possession. Many people say Warhol treated her as an ‘art piece’; using her as an accessory to show off at parties and casting her aside when out of the spotlight. Sedgwick died in 1971 as a victim of circumstance, a used rag hung out to dry by the people she trusted. However her legacy lives on in popular culture, inspiring many young socialites including Paris Hilton and inspiring the music of Justin Moyer.
Better known as a member of Washington DC band El Guapo, Moyer is an esteemed musician whose solo project has now spanned seven years. Dressing up as Edie Sedgwick and entertaining club goers across the United States, Moyer takes on pop culture, breaking it down and messing with the minds of Hollywood’s elite. Under the name Edie Sedgwick, Moyer has now released three full length albums. Naming each song after a famous Hollywood icon, Moyer recreates the characters using debauched language and sounds. Backed by self created ipod beats and occasionally a live backing band, Moyer’s visual art is becoming a cult favourite in the underground club scene.
His latest album titled Things are Getting Sinister and Sinisterer is out now on Dischord Records. With tracks named after such iconic figures as Sissy Spacek, Mary-Kate Olsen and Rob Lowe, the album is quirky and filled with hip hop inspired beats. Edie Sedgwick lived a colourful life and she continues to do so reincarnated as Justin Moyer.
