Zen, Auckland

Die! Die! Die! is one of the few New Zealand bands of true international quality. On both record and live they are flawless; their huge fan base both home and abroad proves this. Once again on Saturday night they were amazing, even while playing in an bar lined with steel walls and a roof structure that reverberated and echoed badly, they had a tight sound with absolute perfect timing. The most enjoyable thing was being able to stand so close to the band, the left side of the stage was exposed allowing fans plenty of space to jive and witness the exact chord changes and powerful drum beats.

Support band Peace War don’t really justify a mention, Tina from the Coolies’ new band should never have been playing with Die! Die! Die! and really didn’t deserve to play to such a large audience. The Bemsha Swing on the other hand rightfully took their place on the bill, ripping through a number of what sound more and more like math rock songs every time I see them. Their sound is developing well and with an album almost complete we can expect to hear more of them both live and on radio.
