The Kings Arms, Auckland

After sticking it out for five hours at the So So Modern gig downtown, we jumped in the car with Mike, Will and Al from Boyfriend and headed to The Kings Arms to see Over The Atlantic play. Once again it was worth the effort, OTA played a beautiful set consisting mostly of songs from their stunningly good new album Dimensions; a few older songs helped balance out the set. Like last time I reviewed OTA, ‘Jen’ was again a highlight, something about that song transports me away into another place. While the crowd was small, it was still a lot bigger than the band’s previous Auckland show and the band appreciated it gracefully.

The only real problem, shared by the band after the show, was the quality of the sound. Perhaps not quite mixed to perfection, it was the only downer on another amazing Over The Atlantic show. I got to chat with the guys afterwards and they expressed a lot of interest in playing more shows in New Zealand, something I’m sure many here will be pleased with.
