Whammy bar, Auckland

We are Japanese Motors. We are Japanese Motors. We are Japanese Motors. We are Japanese Motors. We are Japanese Motors. Take our photo! We are Japanese Motors.

Brand New Math showed them a thing or two that night, as I suspected they might. BNM have upped their professionalism and live show even more, fine tuning their on-stage camaraderie and putting paid to all their hype.

I’m pretty sure the lead singer of Japanese Motors, Alex Knost, wishes he was Hendrix, or Mick Jagger. His constant posturing got on my nerves; he blatantly tried to twist and writhe like Iggy, and strut like Mick. Admittedly his glad-eyeing of all the Vice do-section wannabe girls was amusing though. The Vice party was everything I thought it would be – generous servings of free booze and hipsters – but decidedly lacked in debauchery, compared to the last one, anyway. Organiser Hayden’s decorative touches (nose ‘n’ glasses and other party favours littered all over the floor) and his getting up on stage and MCing like a gracious and not the least bit annoying host between bands made it memorable. It was good, but Vice should bring back Telepathe!!!
