New Hungry Caterpillar song

Merely months after the release of his epic mash-up album, the wonderfully titled Dodecahedrone, the man behind The Hungry Caterpillar unveils yet another alternative Hip Hop song of his own design. Dodecahedrone was an awesome, epic, 16-track segue of alternative Hip Hop and R&B featuring the likes of Raekwon, Missy Elliot, T.I., Lil Wayne, Mos Def and M.I.A. mixed with chiming and chanting Bollywood anthems. Ben Thompson (the designer and bedroom producer behind Simian Lines Design and The Hungry Caterpillar) put the two kinds of music together perfectly synchronised and beat-matched to make some eerie, curiosity-piquing and catchy-as-hell songs. I can’t think of anyone that’s doing this kind of thing right now, and so well! Ben unveiled to me today (by way of cryptic, wordless email) his new song, Public Transport, a similarly Hindu/Hip Hop track with Bollywood chimes and classic slow, booming beat with watery synths lying beneath. Ben’s rapping is very matter of fact, telling his qualms with daily life and catching public transport. His vocals are still slyly and shyly hidden underneath the other parts, but this is the first time Ben’s rapped properly, and it’s so cool to hear! It’s so great to see one of my favourite talented bedroom producers coming more and more out of his shell, to make some rather ground-breaking music. Look out for the crazy sci-fi mutterings at the end! While it’s only 1.37 minutes long, this song demands many replays.
Favourite line – “Everybody needs a sanctuary/ the moon’s no place for yellow canaries”
