Melodramatic Popular Girl

When Larry Rose from KEXP 90.3FM in Seattle dropped Dum Dum Girls yesterday I instantly fell in love. The work of Dee Dee, a librarian from Los Angeles, echoes Vivian Girls but somehow exceeds their crunching punk sound with more layers and a wider use of distortion. Named after the Talk Talk song ‘Dum Dum Girl’, Dee Dee takes inspiration from many of her contemporaries channeling them into her own unique sound. With an internet buzz slowly generating, Dum Dum Girls is definitely someone to watch out for in the coming months.

So far there has been one official release, a self-titled EP released on the Zoo Music label. Although according to her myspace page it is now sold out. Good news is that in the coming months there will be three separate Dum Dum Girls releases; a 7″ titled Longhair, a 12″ EP titled Yours Alone and a 4-way split 7″ with PENS, Best Fwends and Crocodiles. Keep an eye on her myspace to find out exactly when they will be made available.
