Slow Release

Tracy Wilson is perhaps best known as being an essential member of influential New Jersey band Dahlia Seed. Between 1992-1996 Dahlia Seed produced three aggressive albums of emo/grunge/hardcore, which today sees them credited as one of the founding bands of the emo genre. The most well known of the Dahlia Seed’s, Wilson was renowned for her passionate, ‘in your face’ style of vocal delivery, which at times was often full of angst and raw emotion.
In 2007 Tracy Wilson announced her first solo album under the name Ringfinger; her first album of original material since ending with Dahlia Seed. Titled Decimal, the album saw Wilson collaborate with other hot names on the indie circuit, including members of Isis, Film School and Cave In. The album also features production by J Robbins of Dalek. Wilson says “working with new and older material spanning a decade, I began recording Decimal in 2002. All songs have been written by me but each track has since been passed along to friends to do what they please with it.”
While Ringfinger still features Wilson’s raw, passionate song writing, her songs are delivered with less power, sung in a soft more defined tone. She seems to have matured from her days as a angst ridden grunge singer into a more controlled and relaxed individual, with a new musical direction firmly in focus. Because it was put together by a number of different musicians, Decimal is sparsely different in parts. From the shoegazy electronica of ‘Death Star’ to the simple guitar parts of ‘Testing An Echo’ the album fits together beautifully. Wilson’s voice acts as a catalyst, moulding each song into a unique shape and not one song fails.
