Mad Music Monday!

Bob Dylan
There’s been a lot of amazing new songs coming out and in an effort to make sure you know about some of the best ones, I have compiled them into one post. First up there’s the amazing new song from Bob Dylan, off his album Together Through Life that’s out tomorrow! ‘Beyond Here Lies Nothin” reminds me of his most recent New Zealand tour, his live shows were incredibly sophisticated and with full band in tow Bob had the space to really shine. His voice is raspy and full as ever and this song is a testament to his neverending energy. Though some say it sounds like any other newish Dylan song, it is undeniably set in its old blues rock and roll ways, it is very structured and a bit glam sounding but I like it a lot.

EAR PWR
Next up is a rather lesser-known band, EAR PWR (pronounced “Ear Power”), from North Carolina. Nick took a liking to them last year, playing their amazingly cute electro pop song ‘DIAMONDS, LIQUOR, LEATHER’ on EMJ radio repeatedly. I found their latest song, ‘Future Eyes’ whilst browsing our blogroll and it must be said this song is catchy as hell. If you have a penchant for the millions of modern new bands using gleaming synths and cute kid voices with phat bass and glistening drum tracks then you’ll dig EAR PWR. Their album Super Animal Brothers III is out on May 19!

Sonic Youth
Another big new release comes from grunge pioneers Sonic Youth, with their song ‘Sacred Trixter’ from their forthcoming new album The Eternal. Sung by Kim Gordon, the song is a riotous, rollicking ecstatic punk gem showcasing their guitar trickery and the cleaner sound they’ve adopted in modern times. Most notably it reminds of their most recent album, 2006′s Rather Ripped. Their myspace describes it as “an out-of-the gate hardcore matinee track with Kim singing salutes to French painter Yves Klein and Western Massachusetts noise artist Noise Nomads.” The Eternal is out on June 9.

Clipse
A stomping instant classic, this hip hop track features Kanye West, which is a pretty big deal I guess even though that guy’s all over everything these days. To be honest I don’t think Clipse needed the star value of Mr West, they were good enough on their own! Remember ‘Ride Around Shining’? What about ‘Wamp Wamp’? Actually Slim Thug featured on the latter but it still stuck in my head for a good few months, and it seems that this new song will do the same. Just like with their 2006 album Hell Hath No Fury I didn’t get it at first, but give it a few listens and any negative preconceptions you may have about Clipse will wash off and soon you’ll be cranking it all day every day… Also, if you’ve never heard the Clipse mash up with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (‘Clipse Your Hands Say Wamp Wamp’) by The Hood Internet, check it out! It’s an absolute KILLER and got me into the group in the first place.

Sunset Rubdown
Last but not least, one of the most impressive, cerebral talents in Canada, Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade’s other band, Sunset Rubdown, was always impressive with their third album Random Spirit Lover that saw them gain wider attention. With their new song ‘Idiot Heart’ they are a bit more accessible and immediate. Ever passionate, their fourth full-length album Dragonslayer will be released on June 23 on Jagjaguwar.
