Red Wine and Jelly

Free albums rule, especially when they’re from awesome bands like Experimental Dental School. The Portland band has just released their brand new album Forest Field as a free download from their website. Shoko Horikawa and Jesse Hall aka XDS are one of the loudest sounding duos around. They somehow manage to sound like a five piece alternative rock band, making a mockery of so many other bands bigger and stronger than them. They’re the little kids punching above their weight, but they win every time.
Blending the bluesy-ness of The White Stripes with the energy and confidence of The Strokes, mixed with their own erratic ability to turn a song inside out, their music is often chaotic but has a cohesive quality that makes it ever so appealing. You could even compare them a bit to Deerhoof, whom they have just completed a six week tour throughout the US with. Forest Field is actually one of the best albums I have heard so far this year. It’s so full of energy, combining cutesy childish melodies with edgy angular pop, finishing with the perfect balance between rough and polished production.
Forest Field is the band’s fourth full length album, their first came out in 2003. They have all their albums and a swag of split 7″ vinyls and other merchandise available to purchase from their website.
