A Bit Too Indie?
Amanda from Pocahaunted is fronting what looks to be a new super group, along with Cameron from Sun Araw and Britt from Robedoor. All are members of the Not Not Fun Records family which is known for its lo-fi weirdo experimental music and its array of dark, earthy underground releases. Vibes is a mix of ethereal soul, dark bass lines and deranged psychedelia; similar to Pocahaunted but with less doom and more mind expanding noise. They actually remind me a little of The Velvet Underground; songs like ‘Venus In Furs’ and ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties’ have a similar dark spiritual rhythm.
Vibes released a limited addition cassette titled You God It in early 2009 and yesterday released a 4 track 7″ titled Psychic. The 7″ can be purchased from the Not Not Records website. The cassette sold out long ago.
