Brand New Single

Jay Reatard just posted a brand new single titled ‘It Ain’t Gonna Save Me’ on his website. It’s the first single from his upcoming album Watch Me Fall, which has an official release date of August 18 and is Jay Reatard’s first full-length album since 2006′s Blood Visions. In a recent interview published on Matador Records’ website, Jay says ” It’s the first time I’ve written and recorded an album specifically because a label wants to release it. I’ve never made a record for a record label… I’ve never made a record in which the label heard the songs, or anyone heard the songs, before the album was finished, so that’s kind of intense.”
‘It Ain’t Gonna Save Me’ is a bit slower than Reatard’s usual raucous post-punk and has more of an emphasis on the vocals. It sounds a little bit lo-fi when compared to his recent Matador singles collections, but in true Reatard punk fashion it has a very catchy chorus.
When we saw Jay Reatard and his band play in Auckland earlier this year it was one of the greatest shows we’d ever seen. They had so much energy and they played a blistering non-stop set, yelling the song titles in between each song, totally out-shining No Age who were on the same bill (No Age were still awesome).
