Boy Wonder

English pop wonderkid Jamie T has a new EP coming out, titled Sticks ‘N’ Stones, on June 29. The title track is a catchy bratty pop affair and the video is a delight, featuring Jamie and friends running around causing a ruckus with a clown. Jamie T first caught my attention on one of those magazine sampler CDs, with his song ‘Operation’. Instantly memorable for its tight rhythm section, skillfull lyricism, weirdly harsh, almost metallic-sounding vocal production and general left-of-centre composition, he really stuck out amongst the Oasises and typical Brit Pop revivalists also found on that CD. I found I didn’t really want to like Jamie T, with his deliberately showy and irritating demeanor, but he won me over. Sticks and Stones looks like he might have toned it down a bit, it’ll be interesting to see how this EP places him.
