Surfing The Unsigned Buzz

From Los Angeles, California comes a mumbly, drone soaked, psychedelic surf rock band named Pearl Harbour. The name may not be all that original (remember Pearl Harbour and the Explosions from the late ’70s), but the music highlights their sun bleached Californian roots. With a surf rock guitar sound reminiscent of John B. Sebastian’s Lovin’ Spoonful and borrowing psychedelic grooves from Canned Heat, the duo’s knack for a modern day hippy sound is worthy of the buzz. There’s even hints of Deerhunter (Agoraphobia comes to mind) and a slight curve towards Wellington’s Secret Knives in some of the rhythms and vocal harmonies.
The duo of Skylar K and Piper K have put out one small release, a handmade CD-R called Calistonia Dreamin’ which can be purchased for $5 from the band’s myspace. While you’re there, check out Piper K’s Surfside Slashers T-shirt label, you’ll find a link in the band’s top friends.
