New album Ignore the Ignorant

Did anyone hear The Cribs’ last album, 2007′s Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever? It was CLASSIC! Such concise, catchy brit-pop tunes set in modern malaise. Perfect delivery, clean, crisp production, sassy attitude and perfectly structured, tight punk/pop. It was seriously underrated and under recognised as far as I’m aware. I still play ‘Men’s Needs’ over and over every now and then. From the immediate crisp hi-hat snap to the tightly wound rhythms and droning, double-tracked vocals to the eternally catchy main guitar riff that mingles with the noodly bass so perfectly… Few songs are so blissful to listen to. So naturally I’m absolutely stoked to be able to report that The Cribs are releasing a new album on September 7! Titled Ignore the Ignorant, NME reported in an interview with frontman Ryan Jarman that “the title was inspired by the British National Party winning a seat in the recent European Parliament elections in Yorkshire.” Jarman said, “There were a bunch of titles we could have gone with including Ignore The Ignorant. Then in Yorkshire the BNP got a seat and we were like, ‘Fuck.’ It’s harsh to accept that it can happen in your town.”
This will be the UK band’s first release with former The Smiths/Modest Mouse guitarist Jonny Marr. Marr joined the band early last year, adding his trademark perfect pop guitar work to the band’s already consistently excellent array of tunes, he raised the band’s profile some but they still don’t have the world conquered as they deserve to. But, as if popularity matters! In celebration of their impending new album, the band has made available for free download the first single ‘We Were Aborted’. A more raucous, ramshackle affair than their previous, more restrained songs, the gritted teeth of Men’s Needs… have been replaced by full-blown fist fights. Download ‘We Were Aborted’, plus my favourite oldie, ‘Men’s Needs’, below. Ignore the Ignorant, to come out on Wichita Recordings, was produced by Nick Launay of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Arcade Fire fame.
