Machines On The TV

Kyp Malone, lead guitarist and some-time vocalist from TV On The Radio has gone solo, calling his new project Rain Machine. He apparently choose the name because he thought Kyp Malone wouldn’t look good on a t-shirt. Anti Records announced they had signed Rain Machine last month and his first song has just been made public via Pitchfork.
The song is called ‘Give Blood’ and it is the first single from Rain Machine’s self-titled debut album, out on September 22. If you imagine TV On The Radio thrown in a magician’s hat along with some pixie dust and Grace Slick’s white rabbit, you’ll be very impressed. The single is very TVOTR sounding, but with more emphasis on Malone’s crooked guitar playing and a slight ringing of chimes that sparkle alongside his high-pitched voice. It’s equally as impressive as anything TVOTR has ever produced and is much stronger than Malone’s other band Iran.
Malone has apparently been writing songs for the project since he first moved to New York City in 2000. On Anti Records’ website he describes his material as “a nearly full-spectrum of frequencies audible to the human ear – a reflection of a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined, some rhythm and some rhyme.” The album art below was hand-drawn by Malone.
