Magnify Your Eyes

Interpol front man Paul Banks recently launched his solo career under the name Julian Plenti. Sceptics could easily say it sounds like Interpol without the classic sound from the rhythm section, and they probably would have a point. But for those who find Interpol a little too stiff and somewhat polished, Plenti is a little more weathered, not quite as cohesive as when playing with his band. There is also a little more diversity on Plenti’s solo record, playing with an orchestra and giving synths a more central role.
Apparently the solo project started back in 2002, just before Interpol released Turn On The Bright Lights, but details are very sketchy. Other reports say that between 1998 and 2003 Banks used to play solo acoustic shows in New York, and that this was the beginning of what later became Julian Plenti. His debut album Julian Plenti is… Skyscraper is due for release on August 4 through Matador Records.
