The Zookeepers- Ballin’ Outrageous 9/10 “… Ballin’ Outrageous is a bundle of fun, complete with moments of laughter and full of joyful pop… The Zookeepers’ ability to control their impulsive ADD song writing style is very impressive, making a beautiful pop record out of disjointed, incohesive songs that would normally be restless in each other’s [...]

Dirty Projectors video- Stillness Is The Move
You thought Mariah could sing high? As you’d expect, Dirty Projectors’ latest video is shot on top of a very high mountain, Mt Equinox in Vermont, to be exact. The rather weird clip includes the girls doing typical girl-group dancing in matching, billowy pale blue jumpsuits. The girls make the dancing look very cute though, [...]

Liechtenstein interview
Removing The ‘All-Girl’ Prefix Studying, running a record label and working as a theatre producer sounds like a pretty full-on work schedule, but the girls from Swedish band Liechtenstein somehow find time to make post-punk infused pop music that has seen them compared to Vivian Girls. I talked to the band’s guitarist Renee about Liechtenstein’s [...]

The Zookeepers- Ballin’ Outrageous
The Zookeepers- Ballin’ Outrageous 9/10 With blasts of electronic drums sending shock waves from the surface of The Zookeepers’ sophomore album, Ballin’ Outrageous is a bundle of fun, complete with moments of laughter and full of joyful pop. This is the second album from the Boston quartet and they’ve turned everything up a gear, spilling [...]

Wilberforces- Haunted
Wilberforces- Haunted 8/10 Starting with the pummeling waves of drums in ‘Wipeout’, if you bought this CD blind you may think you got yourself a contemporary surf album. But that couldn’t really be further from the truth. Biting, gritty and abrassive punk rock made by Auckland’s Thom Burton, Emily Littler, Chris Varnham and a revolving [...]

Doteyes- Doteyes EP
Doteyes- Doteyes (EP) 7/10 Doteyes is the solo project of Shane Dudfield, bassist in Hamilton band Dynamo Go. However comparisons between his two projects should not be drawn, as his spacey electronic pop is vastly different from Dynamo Go’s indie folk. His debut EP contains four official tracks, two bonus mash-ups, and a remix featuring [...]

Fleet Foxes new song
‘Blue Spotted Tail’ A few days ago Seattle’s Fleet Foxes played Glastonbury. Judging by their January performance in Auckland it’s likely to have been awesome. Their end-of-year-list-topping, self-titled album was released a while ago now, so the world waits with baited breath for another instant classic, euphoric gospel folk follow-up. Meanwhile, Fleet Foxes’ lead singer/guitarist [...]
