New album early 2010

Hot New York chanteuse Lissy Trullie blew EMJ away with her debut Self -taught Learner EP (read the review here), now she’s announced she’ll start working on her album. Signing to Downtown Records, the label announced today they’ll be releasing the EP on October 20 with a mix of new and previously unreleased tracks. Then Lissy will begin working on her debut LP with Cut Off Your Hands, Duffy and Black Kids producer Bernard Butler. Yep, she’s getting the old Butler treatment. Cross your fingers and hold onto your seat belts. I really hope Butler doesn’t massacre another promising release; part of Lissy’s music’s success lies in its stark simplicity, crisp, cool attitude and creative integrity. Butler often goes over the top with his role as producer, muddying clean pop songs and putting too much of his own style in. I wage that if he can take a back seat on this one and let Lissy take the reigns the early 2010 release is likely to be awesome, otherwise I’m worried. Below are some reasons why Lissy rules.

amen to Bernard Butler hate. dude can be unilateral with his Phil-Spector-producing-The-Smiths shtick, even when it’s completely unsuited to the songs.
felt his production sapped a lot of energy from the Cut Off Your Hands record… though he did a good job with the songs that actually fit his sound (eg Still Fond and Turn Cold). ditto Black Kids. perfect for Duffy though.
