Julian Casablancas video interview

Message to the fans:
“Hang In There!”

Because I know I’m not alone in my hopeless, fanatic pining for another Strokes’ release of any kind, here’s another update on lead singer Julian Casablancas’ solo efforts. In a decidedly lax conversation for his first video interview in three years, Casablancas sheds as much light as he can on his upcoming solo debut record in a modestly informal youtube clip.
Casablancas says he wants to inspire with Phrazes of the Young, to “capture the catchiness of modern music, but at the same time get the power and seriousness of classical music or older music”.
In response to a question comparing his recording solo to with The Strokes, he says, “With this record I’m able to chase down any crazy idea, I can do whatever I want so it’s fun.” About The Strokes’ upcoming album, he says modestly, “I think it’s going to be… I don’t know, everyone says ‘the best yet’, I have no idea. It’s going to be pretty good I think!”
Casablancas admits that where five years ago he would have struggled to find new bands to get excited about, now there’s “ten great bands at least”, and that he’s been enjoying Beirut, Telepathe, Dirty Projectors and Beach House.

WHAO, AT LEAST ten bands he can get excited about. clearly has his finger on the pulse of “music”. I’m so glad that Julian Casablancas can report this encouraging news about the current situation of good bands.

Implying that in the world today there are only a maximum of 9 bands “greater” than Dirty Projectors???
HAR HAR HAR
“capture the catchiness of modern music, but at the same time get the power and seriousness of classical music or older music” - sounds like something Nigel Tufnel would say.
