‘I Get Even’

Mickey Avalon

Dirty ol’ bastard rapper Mickey Avalon posted a new song on his myspace yesterday and we have to say that it’s awesome! More breezy, atmospheric and definitely cleaner than his previous work (songs like ‘Jane Fonda’ or ‘So Rich So Pretty’, which I also love), ‘I Get Even’ is only a demo as yet but its production is classy and Mickey has adopted a slower, smoother delivery. I’ve always been a fan of his lyrical flows and rhythms, here he takes it up a notch and makes it a bit more mature and universal. This song is sure to get him more widely recognised beyond his Cobrasnake friends circle if it gets into the right hands. He’s still got his trademark potty mouth, and heroin tracks are all over this song but with some almost-slide guitar and atmospheric backing tracks it’s a step up. Mickey’s also developed his rapping in such a way that listeners who may have previously found him annoying may now be able to deal with him. On the other hand this may mean that old fans may be disappointed with him toning it down and growing up. What do you think? Check out the new song and also his song on The Hangover movie, ‘What Do You Say’, on his myspace. And watch this space: he said he should be putting up another brand new track soon as well, “because the record is taking so long to come out.”
