Butt Simpson is ferociously noisy, obnoxiously grating, grinding noise made by Ryan (Megaheroes, sometime drummer for Golden Axe), and Sam (Dyke Dyke Dyke) from Wellington. The couple make mad super noise that constantly peaks, resulting in muffled, blasting shots of continuous disortion, interrupted only by the faintest vocal howls and screams, and eternally changing, terrifying tirades of abusive drums. It’s a mind-blowing wall of sound, a big fuck-off to everything before it and signaling a new way for the future. The sound of cat fights, a single voice drowning in a sea of sound, and colossal planet collisions. There’s no explanation, but the duo thank Apu for letting them record in his Squishee Mart. Entirely DIY, their hand silk-screened CD, cover art and posters are dazzlingly amazing, explosively colourful and imaginative collectors items. This mini album races through screeds of sounds and ideas, morphing from one crazed hot dog dripping with ideas to the next tin roof collapsing in on itself from the weight of its own aggression and idealism. It’s sheer creativity in its best possible form.

’signaling a new way for the future’: whaaaat? noise (in this form) has been popular amongst kids-in-the-know for aaaaaaages. with lightning bolt so famous the last half decade or more, this is just playing in the style of a recognised format… fun, yes but hardly ground-breaking (if that’s what you’re looking for).

HEY UR SON SHULD LISTEN TO MY NEW RADIO STATION CALLED NOISE MUSIC FM ITS 94.85 FM LIKE JUST BELOW BFM. IT ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE NOISE MUSIC VERSIONS OF EVERYTHING THATS ON BFM. WORKS BETTER SOME PLACES RATHER THAN OTHERS. IF YOU’RE OUTSIDE AUCKLAND ITS REAL SWEET COZ YOU ONLY GET THE NOISE PART OF NOISE MUSIC AND ITS REALLY ALTERNATIVE AND CREATIVE.
