Champions of the Game

Utilising simplistic production the likes of The Cool Kids, and slower, precise rapping, Southern California’s Pac Div has been named by SPIN magazine as a hot act to watch at this year’s CMJ Festival, alongside Die! Die! Die! and Best Coast. And understandably so; brothers Like and Mibbs, along with longtime friend BeYoung make fresh beats and sparky rhymes with sharp percussion and Missy Elliott-like choruses of vocals. Their songs are fun and catchy and their stripped-back sound is a captivating, toe-tapping fresh respite from all the overproduced, under-realised ideas prevalent in modern hip hop. The Cool Kids also collaborated with them on their recent Church League Champions Mixtape, which is available for free download on Pac Div’s website. Watch out for these guys, they’ve been compared to Jurassic 5 and N.E.R.D. lent production to their debut album, Grown Kids Syndrome (out now through Universal Motown Records). ‘We The Champs’ packs one hell of a punch, and ‘Knuckleheadz’ sounds like 50 songs in one, their ideas continuing to flow and roll on into one another, changing tempos and kicking up dust in the faces of their rivals.
